Cloudy water after adding fine sand substrate

Ok , Here is what i have , 75 gallon DT 30 gallon sump. Here is the dilemma. I rinsed out my sand (maybe not as much as i should have) Added it to my new 75 gal. tank. I then rinsed the sand inside my tank and replace cloudy water 5 times already. After all that work it still is cloudy, no particles but just cloudy water. I understand it should and hopefully will clear up in a couple of days. Should i still add salt and proceed to cycle my tank?? Should i buy some water polisher pads??? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hi and welcome. If it were me, I'd dump the water you have in there now and mix the saltwater in a separate container. Once your desired salinity is reached, add the salt water. I typically let my saltwater mix for 24 hours. Your water may be cloudy for several days however using a "water polishing" pad will take care of that within a couple days. You will have to rinse the pad numerous times throughout. Good luck.

Let the overflow go into a sock. Should clear up soon

I ran mine through a 200 micron sock for a couple days and it cleared right up

Water polishing pads will help but the particles in my tank eventually all settled or got skimmed out.

i've used the crystal clear stuff you can get in the fish aisle @ wallyworld. works decent w/ HOB filters or filter pads. But i'd follow what others have already said, probably best not to add chemicals like that to your tank anyhow.

Just wait it out and use filter socks if you have them. I rinsed my sand very well and still had the cloudy water for a few days. Replace the socks every 12 to 24 hours if dirty (they should be lol) and go ahead and run your skimmer (this is assuming you have saltwater in the tank). hope this helps

It will settle down. Or use fine filter to speed up.

I had the same issue on one of my old fw tanks and used an extra canister filter with polishing media inside. I've also used one of the hob Magnum filters with the micron cartridge insatlled, that cleared my water overnight!
