cleaning sand for new tank

I just got 2 bags of Topic Eden Reef Flakes. I was wondering what the best way to clean or rinse the sand before I put it in the tank. Note: the tank is dry as of now, never had water yet.

Should I use RODI water to clean it? my tap water is about 65 tds and does have chlorine in it.

The boss (wife) says to put small amounts in a bucket swish it around a little then pour out water. seems fine for me just not sure if that is the simplest way and if my sink or tub water is safe for this task or if i should have a barrel of rodi ready and just use that.

thanks for the input, hopefully I will be up and rolling by next weekend with the cycle.

-Bret

When I had a sand bed, I would always use RO/DI water to rinse it off.

It may be "over kill" but I wanted to take zero chances.

The simplest way is small amounts in a bucket, swished around in tap water, rinse and repeat till you get clear water. After that, then rinse once in RO or RO/DI water.

always just used a garden hose to clean mine. sand in bucket, water in bucket, swish around, drain and repeat until water is clear or as close to clear as you can get it. your not going to hurt anything by doing it that way.
