Adding foam to skimmer

hi all!

I just got the reef octopus bh 90 3 days ago and this thing is already pulling out nasty skimmate. my only issue is of course micro bubbles. The bh 90 comes with a bubble diffuser but its so-so. I was wondering if i could add a thicker foam to it rather than the very "open" foam they included with it. I used to use a foam block from eshopps which is very dense and it stopped my micro bubble issue completely in my old 90 gallon.

that is the bubble diffuser that came with my skimmer.

It's going to create a lot of micro bubbles for the first week or so of use.
