long output and waste on Ro/Di

Is it a problem to run a long output and waste on and rodi? I would have about 30' to my rodi reservoir behind my tank and ideally would run about the same waste.
I could shorten the waste if I just dump it into the yard, but it's wet already and would like to avoid that.

Will this cause any problems on the ro/di unit?

I highly doubt output matters, it's basically a dribble compared to the input pressure/volume. The waste might have an issue if you have very high input pressure and small(er) diameter waste line, but I would suspect that to be a rare problem to encounter. My waste runs about 15' and I have no issues.

I wonder about this too. My plan is to have my RO/DI unit under the kitchen sink with a faucet for the RO water, then run a line from the DI about 40' to a float switch in my sump. Also, can I tee off the DI line and run a second float switch in a bucket for water changes?

Thanks for the input. Sounds like it will be ok. I'll try it, it's unfortunate but I either get an easy drain line or an easy water line.

That is the worst way you can run your RO/DI actually. When your filter first starts up, you get what is known as TDS creep - the tds will be very high (like 50-100) for the first 5 or 10 seconds, then slowly drop over the next 30 seconds. Once you get past this initial high period, you will be at the normal 95 - 98% rejection rate. When you run the filter for short periods of time frequently (when plumbed directly to your sump float), you get lower quality water and you use your DI resin a lot faster. The best way to run a RO/DI is to turn it on and let it run for several hours at a time.

An interesting, if frustrating hobby! Just when I think I have something figured out here comes another curve ball. So you guys don't have your sumps set up for auto top-off? I guess I'll have to figure out how to make it by the bucket. That presents a whole new problem of where to store the water? Closet space is limited on the first floor and the basement is too cold.

Your premise must also mean that getting a drink of RO water would have high TDS too since you're only using the tap for a few seconds, right?

I set mine to fill a 20 gallon container, with a float valve, when its full i have a manual valve i can close and let it use most of the 20 gallons before i run it again.
