Dusty water

My water looks slightly dusty? What is the cause?

On the surface or in the water column?

Surface would most likely be due to not enough surface skimming or lack of surface agitation (or both). Do you have an overflow box or prefilter box (HOB protein skimmer)?

In the water column could be detritus being blown around but not enough flow through your overflow or a strong enough skimmer/filter to capture it or the dust could actually be micro bubbles produced by a skimmer or a pump.

without a surface skimmer you will have a constant layer of junk on top of the water.

^That and I'm betting your skimmer is producing micro bubbles.

Did you recently re-scape the tank and stirred up the sand?

Micro bubbles sound about right but the cloudiness isn't always there, it comes and goes
