Reef Safe Cleaning

I tried doing a search but didn't find much.. I am wanting to know what are safe products for cleaning equipment??

For example, could you use standard dish soap as long as you make sure the piece is thoroughly rinsed?

Please advise

I would not use dish soap on anything tank realated. I normally use vinegar to remove buildup on pumps/equipment.

No, there is absolutely no use for soap in a tank even if you could use it. It dissolves oils and they are not really a problem in an aquarium. Regular white vinegar is safe to use but rinse it well after, it cleans calcium deposits if soaked an hour or so. For killing microbes, something you would rarely, if ever, need to do you can use peroxide or bleach (rinse VERY well and soak in declorinator after bleach).

Distilled white vinegar for cleaning deposits or grime, peroxide or 1:10 bleach (rinsed with sodium thiosulfate and water) for disinfecting.
