Exclamation ID Help PICS

Hi I'm just looking to pull some thoughts on what EXACTLY this guy is i have pictured. Not the dead or dying amphipod to the left. but the segmented creature. He's got such a strange face, I've seen a picture of this creature's head before but I don't know where, when or why. If you think he's bad please inform me. I reason not, but please provide otherwise.

I'm not sure. But I would definitively say this guy is very very closely related to anthuroids. of which I have never heard of before. wicked neat. flower tails.

This is literally something I just happened to stumble upon in my tank, and while image searching scary isopods lol. I still don't know precisely what I have. I can narrow my search. Interesting article.

Looks a bit like a tanaid to me - but not sure, since I've never seen mine out of the sand.

agreed, after researching it does look like a tanaid. some of those sp. seem to have pinchers. I'd be on the fence with either. leaning towards a type of anthurid. Definitely isopod spp.

chucks site says both species are predatory :/ whaa whaa oh well. reefs not a reef without all the fixin's. damn. lol. Glad I discovered something new to me. Glad I didn't kill anything today. Bummed if he's eating my copepods.

Looks like a tanaid as others have said, most are harmless grazers but the odd one can be a nuisance. I have tons of them in my tank, they repopulate like crazy and dig tunnels in my sand bed. I have had no problems with them.

I wish i had more insight to take more, different, or varied angle shots because I'm having trouble distinguishing the tail and primary limbs; whether it is "petal" like and whether the first set of limbs are pointed or claws. Eh well, I think this is as far as I will get for now until I can find em again. Both species aren't too distant. I'll consider them tanaids. Thanks all.

A good size wrasse would probably devoure it sushi style. I pulled a nice size bug off of a tang I caught once and threw him in. Great find, I did not know they existed.
