Red "things" in pod culture.
Hi everyone. I have a culture of Algagen's Tisbe pods that has been running for a couple months now. I have noticed these small red things on the glass in my culture. They're less than 1/2 the size of the pods in the culture, and bright red. I've been scouring the internet looking for information but have been unsuccessful. Everything I find mentions "red bugs," but only on acro. I am at a loss. They don't seem to be bothering my culture at all so I am wondering if it just may be a larval stage. I've tried to take a picture but there's no way my camera will do it, even on macro setting.

When you say half the size of the copepods, are you taking adult or nauplii?
If nauplii... I hate to give technical support for a competitor, but most likely you are seeing Oxyrrhis marina - a heterotrophic dinoflagellate (phytoplankton). http://www.int-res.com/articles/ame/10/a010p307.pdf What swimming motion do they do?
