glass lid okay to use? There's a 2.5"opening in the back.

I'm trying to reduce evaporation a little bit.Thoughts?

Not sure if this helps but I was told by my lfs to not use it if I didn't have to. Something about it can cause issues with all the levels such as ph and nitrate things like that. I have mine on still but that's because I have a odd sized tank and can't get a good light fixture to fit it in my price range.

Now I have said all that to also say that I have opened the front part that hinges up and my ph level has gone up and the nitrate has dropped just a little. It was never that high to begin with but it has dropped. Also the temp isn't as high. I do plan to hang my lights soon but it isn't a top priority at the moment since opening the front has helped out.

Sorry it was so long I just like to give all the details I can for my answers. Since I just started in the saltwater fish world. Hope it helps and isn't to wrong or off as a answer.

Yeah I was always told not to use a lid. It was so long ago though I just thought I'd ask.

I'd be more concerned about low oxygen levels due to lack of gas exchange at the water's surface than reducing evaporation. Your skimmer is oxygenating the water for sure, but water surface area of the tank and agitation is a major contributor to proper O2 levels.
