Reef Octopus xp 3000 external skimmer
just purchased this skimmer, been trying all weekend to get it running. Problem is collection cup fills with water no matter what level I try in skimmer. Running a mag 5 with a ball valve. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

i had the same problem when I was trying to use longer piping to get up and over my sump. I had to build a stand for the skimmer as the pump is tuned to work with the drain plumbing at a specific height. You must assemble the piping before the gate valve per the directions.

once you redo the plumbing.. open the gate valve wide open and run the water at about 4" below the min water level..

skimmer is on a stand slightly higher than the sump.attached 1-1/2" flex line for return to sump. water circulates through the system fine. removed gate valve to check if it works, seem fine. assembled according to instruction sheet. thanks for the response
