460/620nm Purple T5 HO
Has anyone tried these before? I came across them at Drs Foster Smith and they caught my eye.

Yes. I use the ATI Purple Plus in just about every combination of bulbs I've used, it is an excellent bulb. The KZ Fiji Purple and Geisemann Aqua Pink are the same spectrum.

Thanks for replying! I was starting to wonder if anyone used these at all!
Hows the growth rate with it compared to a regular Actinic bulb? Happen to have a picture so I can see how it looks over a tank? |

They are used differently than a standard actinic. This is a supplemental bulb used to help make red colors pop out better. I recommend using them in combination with at least 2 Blue Bulbs (ATI Blue+ is the best). Here are some example combinations:
2 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus, 1 Coral Plus 3 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus 4 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus, 1 GE 6500k 3 Blue Plus, 1 Purple Plus, 2 Coral Plus

Ahh I see now. I thought it was an alternative to an actinic. I was going to try it out in my 2 bulb T-5 over my nano, but sounds like that won't work.
I'll have to wait until I replace the T-12s in my 90g with 2 T-5 retrofits before I get to play with these then. |

You can try a blue plus and a purple plus together if you like, but it's a little extreme. It does make for a great dawn/dusk combination though.
Honestly the best alternative to an actinic is a blue plus. It puts out double the PAR and doesn't give off that weird purple look. Try a Blue Plus and a Coral Plus together over your nano.
