I don't think it really matters too much...cheato just always grows super fast. my tiny 10 or so leaf start I have in the pico has been growing around 3 leaves EVERY DAY! It quatroples in size by the end of the month so I'm always trimming it down.
Anyway... that's why smart people like you keep it in the sump...not the display
conclusion, cheato is easy to grow and good luck!

Not sure you need an led for growing cheato, just a regular cf bulb should do

I have grown chaeto both with cf bulbs (daylight, 6500 Kelvin) as well as cool white/daylight Ikea LEDs.

As stated above a simple CFL will work. I use a 2500k and a 5000k CFL bulb. If you are talking strictly LED's, the trend right now is mostly red LED's (660nm). Some people like to add in a 460nm royal blue as well for every 4 or so red LED's. The cheapest up front cost is obviously the CFL bulbs, however.

I just use a 90 watt flood light from your local home improvement store with a shop light fixture. I believe it registers right at about 6500k. I think I paid a total of $8.
