Basic chem question pH, dKH
My pH is 7.8, my dKH is 8.
Does that make sense? I thought when the dKH is optimal the pH should be optimal too. What do I need to add to increase my pH if the dKH is the optimal level? |

The DKH is fine, the ph is fine too.
Cloak supplied a great article. But really no changes are needed, how is your calcium?

Your dkH is optimal and your pH is right in the good zone. What's the problem?
If you want the pH to be higher then focus on the other side of it. pH is set by two things, alkalinity and CO2 concentration. You've got the alkalinity right now look at the CO2. IMHO I would be cool with the 7.8 and not worry with it. Tends to end up doing more harm than good.

Some good stuff here. That question isn't as basic as it seems. I still can't get my head around the PH Alk thing.

If you have a reef tank, Id worry about your Cal at 290.
