Drip or float and release
I posted this in a different forum but hoping to get a quick response.
Receiving crosshatch pair today Do you drip or float and release? Or do a shorter drip (how long?)

Drip is best. Get a siphon going in some airline tubing and tie a knot in it. No more than about 30 minutes to aclimate. I put the bag in a small bucket and drip into the open bag for about 1/2 hour, then genltly release the fish after removing most of the water out of the bag.

I float for 1/2 hour (bag unopened), then drip for 1/2 hour

The drip method is best for inverts and float and release for fish. As soon as you open the bag, the ammonia starts to steadily rise in the bag to toxic levels or the fish. I believe the time frame is no more than 30 minutes in the bag once it has been opened. Make sure the salinity in the tank matches the bag. Ask the place you are receiving the fish from what the salinity will be and set your tank accordingly. Then you can slowly raise/lower your tank to normal over time. In summary: Float to match temperature. Match salinity Release into QT

+1 to FLSteve: I absolutely agree on the SK8R thread: With matched salinity and close enough PH match, float for 15 and then catch and release.
I used the drip method for years and was always hit or miss. If salinity is not matched, then I do a quick acclimation with floating bag. No longer than 20 minutes or so... |

For mail order fish I agree. For fish that just made a 15 minute drive from my LFS I drip to exact salinity no matter how long it takes.
