Review SRO 6000 ext. 30 days
For those looking for a large skimmer I thought I would post my 30 day review. I work as a service engineer and only home every other weekend. About a year ago I setup a heavily stocked 210gl mixed reef with a 100gl basement sump. Most of that time I used an EV240 with a Mag 18 pump it worked but after 3 or 4 days it would basicially stop skimming due to the amount of buildup on the side walls. Everyone in my family refused to clean it. Imagine that!
I decided to purchace the SRO 6000 ext with the neck cleaning system, gave it a vineagar bath and put it into operation. About two weeks in I was not really impressed and spoke with the folks at coralview. They had me check a few things and assured me that it just has not broke in yet. Fast forward 2 weeks I came home this weekend and to my surprised the amount of skimmate is fantastic compared to my old skimmer. I know many overuse the phrase this skimmer is a beast, but it truly fits. The neck cleaning system works flawlessly I run it for 45 seconds ever 4 hours and keeps the skimmer working as it should. Unlike my other skimmer this one is not effected by something as simple putting my hand in the sump for maintenance. Although not needed I did clean the neck and neck cleaning system and unlike the other it took less then 20 minutes to start pushing the skimmate back over the top. There may be better skimmers on the market but for the price IMHO this combination is hard to beat a real work horse. Mark |

I have the Xp-5000ext with the neck cleaner and I agree with everything you said. They are fantastic skimmers for reasonable amount of cash. Sure there are high end skimmers out there but Reef Octopus units are hard to beat.
