What would cause this???????

I have beautiful deep purple coraline on my rocks. I noticed today one tip of the rock(2.5"x2.5" area) has gone from the deep purple to dark orange spots with white and a light pink as it blends into the surrounding Coraline. I did change the angle of the powerhead a few days ago, but it was always getting good flow and still is, just a slightly different angle. Also, I posted an ID thread yesterday which turn out to be a Astra Star which I hear eat coraline. The star is very small. Never seen the orange spots on the rock like this, in the moon lights its pretty reflective.
Any ideas?

Purple coraline is a great thing but there are other colors , like orange and the most sought after pink.
I would think that moving the flow would have done this. But it being a good move or bad will take time to show.
May i ask why you moved it and whats used for flow in your unknown aged tank?

Astra Star eat small spots in coraline, which in turn "bleaches" the coraline and it will change colors. There is an old thread on here somewhere I read about it, and if you google it there is an article that comes up about it. I will try and find it for you but, for some reason whenever the Astra Star eats the coraline it changes color to a orange/pink color. The article explained why I haven’t read it in a while so lost my grasp on it lol! but something to do with the coraline bleaching and regenerating into this color.

It's hard to know for sure without pictures but I've had asterina star fish in my tank and the coralline they ate was white afterwords. Pink and purple are the most common coralline in our tank but there is other colors. I ordered some LR once that had super bright lime green coralline!

EDIT: I guess I can't read. I just realized he said he has stars and some of the coralline is bleached.

I changed the flow to get some better movement on the sandbed. It was an area that detritus was accumulating.
