ETSS 800 Downdraft Skimmer with bluline pump
I have seen one of these for sale locally. How would it compare to the SCA150 / Bubble Magus NAC6?
Thanks in advance. |

How about combining the skimmer with one of the newer generation dc pumps. They are supposed to be less power hungry.

Those skimmers can't hold a candle to a downdraft like the ETSS or a Beckett skimmer. The ETSS will strip the water of organics. Yes, it needs a very powerful pump and generates a lot of heat, noise, and electrical bills. But, it gets the job done like nobody's business. I'm not sure about how well it would run with a DC pump, there's a thread on them in here you can ask to see if anyone has tried it.

ETSS needs a high pressure pump so DC pumps will not work well. If you don't mind the electricity costs then go for it. I prefer the newer more effecient designs.

Anyone know what is going on with ETSS? I ordered a skimmer/sump/2 pumps back on 4/24/13 for a large custom tank we were putting in at a dentist office. I ordered through Gary directly through AETech and my account was charged ( over $1400 ) on 4/25. I was told it would arrive in 2 weeks. I have been told it would be here mid-week or that he was "sending it out the next morning" 4-5 times. It has been over 8 weeks now and I have not been able to get them on the phone the last 2 days because I just want the order cancelled and my money back. I always thought very highly of their products but I had never ordered directly through them. Reputable companies do not behave this way. Help if anyone knows what is going on with them

I just can not believe they have been so praised. Have they always been this shadey or are they going under and just scamming as much money as they can?

Have had a SB40 on order for 11 weeks. Gary's voice mail has been full for weeks at a time. I have had all the promises that it's shipped and the unit never shows. What I was told by one of the big supply houses is they feel Gary is looking for somebody to take over the business and Gary keeps the patents and can take it easy and get a percentage of the profit. The problem is with all this running around people are getting won't be a business left. If you check all the big houses they show his products discontinued. really must say Iam worried about my current order and will advise if I get it.

The calculations for comparing protein skimmers are in this thread with examples.
This of course doesn't count electrical costs, but claims of more or less efficiency, etc. quickly become relative to the amount of water needing to be filtered: http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...culate+skimmer |

I talked to my bank on Saturday and began the process to reverse the charge. It makes our little maintinance company look bad and i did not want to get ripped off in the end.
