Pump inlet protection
Hi all, I've used an Eheim 1260 sump pump for several years. I'm replacing it with a Waveline DC-5000. The Eheim has a foam filter on the inlet. The Waveline has nothing covering its inlet. Does anyone run their pump with an open inlet? Ever have any problems with stuff flowing through the pump or getting stuck and stopping the pump? Thanks

I have, yes. I have had stupid snails get sucked in and reduce the flow, they were dead with only an empty shell when I found them. Happened once or twice though over a decade.
Foam is overkill IMO. To stop only large things that would not pass through, maybe a strainer? http://www.bulkreefsupply.com/bulkhe...strainers.html You could always adapt a larger one or knock out some teeth so flow is not restricted.

Thanks, those strainers look perfect. I'll measure my inlet and try one out.
