any idea what this is on my rock?

Hey all. Any idea what this might be on my rock. The first one might be hard to see. It's in the back between two rocks. White cylindrical base with a trumpet like flange. The other picture has what I thought was bubble algae starting except that it is red. In looking at it today, it also seems too have a cylindrical stem with an emerging trumpet like flange. Any help would be appreciated.

You know I have a few of those as well and have no idea what they are. They don't seem to hurt anything but I would love to know what they are too.

I really can't tell what either one of those are. Need a closer, clearer image of each one.

What you are describing, and judging from that purple color, could be mushrooms reaching for light. Mine do that when shaded. They stretch out a little and have a flared top like a trumpet.

The one does look like a limpet. Good algae eaters.

Limpet as in a snail? The purple one has not moved and appears to have "grown" from that spot. The white one is underneath a rock. Would a sponge form in a shaded area? I wish I could get a better quality shot of the white one. It resembles an anemone but instead of having tentacles the top appears to be a disc.

I still say shroom move them in to the light and see if they flatten back out. Here's a pic of some in the extreme. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh....php?t=1056232 And yes to the sponge being in a shaded area.

During some routine algae maintenance in my tank last night, I inadvertently knocked over some of the live rock. The upside of this is I was able to get at the growths. In looking at the pic that crsswift70 posted, I would say that they are indeed mushrooms. I am new enough to the hobby to be amazed that they would pop up on a rock that has been in the tank for 30 days. Also, it now appears that there is the maroon one, the white one, a tan looking one, and brown one growing as well. I placed the rock on the sand bed exposed to lighting. In reading it seems that shrooms do not require a great deal of flow or lighting but I have also seen some conflictual info about it. I'll post some pics tonight, but any feedback about placement and the like would be appreciated. The tank has been up for 30 days today, and am hoping to add some hardy coral frags in the next week or so. It is a Nano-Cube 28g.

Some find shrooms invasive as they will split and multiply. As with any coral, they should probably be moved in stages to full light. They do not need a lot of light and you are right about the flow. Gentle is normally better for them as they will catch the current and fold over on themselves if it's too high. The brown and tan ones might color back up in the light. My green ones look a clearish tan if they get shaded too long.
