watchman goby

for those who have kept watchman gobies, how do they fare in a tank with corals? Once I figure out what killed off my fish I would like to add one, corals are great but the fish adds motion a tank.

The only issue is that their constant sifting of sand let's small particles enter the water column and eventually some will settle on your corals. I blow of my corals on a weekly basis with a turkey baster anyway but the added benefit of the sand sifting makes them a valuable addition to any reef tank.

The goby will most likely be the only fish, though I've read the will pair with pistol shrimp. I also read they can bother corals...any merit to this? sifting the sand is also a plus, even with my nassarius

My Yellow watchman doesn't touch the sand. He just perches waiting for food to come by.

My diamond goby does both.

I have a pink spotted watchman goby and a hi fin both paired with pistol shrimp, they keep to themselves, both perch on something some days, my hi fin likes to perch on the brain in front of his den. they dont make to much of a mess, whatever ssand under the rock thats moved is usually blown alway by the powerhead

My YWG doesn't sift sand - just hangs out on the sand in front of his cave and waits for food to go by him. The Diamond Watchman Goby is much more active - sand sifting and moving sand and shells. He swims in the water column and all over looking for food, but never really touches any coral on purpose. Diamonds get much bigger too.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think a yellow watchman will make a good addition to the tank.

Mine dug a hole and has lived there since so he doesn't mess with my sand much but once he used to live behind a rock of mushrooms and was funny because in a garden of mushrooms you'd see his head poking out
