T5 coverage/spread question

Hey folks,

I was just given some 24" T5HO fixtures for my 36" front-to-back 24" tall tank. I'm planning on mounting them aligned front-to-back rather than lengthwise to get the most coverage. That still leaves me with 14 inches uncovered by a bulb. How good's the spread on these things?

try it and see but usually the best spread goes the other way not past the end caps of the lamp. there is a reason when you look down a hallway the lights are layed out the way they are

Yeah, I totally get that. Before I open the boxes and can't take them back I want to have a better idea of what I'll actually be getting out of the lights. I'm right with you though, I don't think PAR will be sufficient on either end at the substrate's surface. Kind of a shame really, the gift-giver meant well.

Any recommendations for good T5 coverage on a 36"x24" area?

Yes, take them back and get 36'' t5 lights. Is the tank 24" deep or is that the width of the tank? How deep?

The tank's 24" deep/high and 36" front to back. I've changed plans and decided to go with halides. Found a nice deal on some.

Thanks for the advice folks!
