Cleaning aquarium glass

Hi

The outer layer of the aquarium glass is constantly 'oily' and have water stains maybe because the water is too cold cuz of the chiller

I have tried using news paper to clean it and it works to a certain extent but I want to know what do people truly use to ensure that the glass is crystal clear

RO/DI water and a small amount of vinegar on occasion.

I spray a paper towel with windex, well away from the tank, then wipe the glass.

"Oily" I suppose is the key here. I had that problem when the tank was new. No idea why, it just looked and was indeed "oily". I went to it with soapy water, then lots of passes with multiple rags, first wet with just tap water to rinse then dry towels.

Since then, I've noticed that "oily" look whenever the humidity in the fish room was high. More of a problem in the damp summers and less in the dry winters. Seems the dampness just causes streaks, no matter how dry the towels that I use are. Windex seems to work best for me against this dampness oilness, or multiple passes with multiple fresh dry rags or paper towels work as well.

And yes, I've used my old t-shirts, even socks!! LOL!

Microfiber towels after cleaning with Windex/paper towels. (This stops working if you use any type of dryer sheet when you wash/dry your MF towels, so get one that's just for the fish tank, and let it air dry.

i usually wipe mine down with warm water to get rid of the salt that always seems to get dripped on it from me having my hands in the tank.

then i "buff" it with a dry paper towel to get any excess water off.

then i use a paper towel with windex on it to clean it, then "buff" with a dry towel one more time and it comes out nice and clean.
