QT Query
Recently acquired a foxface and a yellow tang (they both came from the same tank) and planned on putting them in a 150. The 150 consists of PVC hiding places, and a water heater, but is not plumbed. It does have mp40's for flow. They are currently the only occupants, but I have to leave town for 3 days. I would rather not plumb a tank, and walk. If I were to leave for 3 days with an ATO hooked up, would 2 fish in a 150 should be ok if I do a large water change before I leave and when I get back. I have a feeder, and will probably leave seaweed clipped. Thoughts?

New 150G QT tank? Has is cycled? If so, just feed em before you go and let the feeder work. Don't sweat the ATO - some evap in a 150 won't hurt anything.
If no cycle, then feed them a bit before you leave and don't feed them while you are gone. The cycle will hurt them more than not getting food for a few days. |

The tank has not cycled, just saltwater at 1.025
I'll feed before leaving, do a 30 gallon water change, and then wait to feed till I get back, then another water change. I plan on putting them into 50 gallon holding bin with a small hob filter when I return. It will be LR going right into the 150, so there should be a very quick cycle time. |

Put the HOB filter on the 150 and get it going while you are out of town.
Be careful what you feed - a otherwise healthy fish can be hurt more by ammonia than by having to go a few days without food. |

I was just going to run sponges and carbon in the HOB, any suggestions? Keep in mind they are holding in what will be a DT.
Thanks for the advice. I think I will just do pellets and put a piece of nori up before a water change. |
