My first salt water tank, adding fish
Hello I'm about to start cycling my new marine system I'm about to put the live rock in. I have a list of what I'm putting into the tank and I just want people to let me know if I'm doing anything wrong. So it's a 75 gallon tank.
I want to add: 2 ocellaris clowns. Watchman goby and pistol shrimp pair Pencil urchin Devils hand coral Eagle eye polyp And some sort of anenome Also is there anything else people could suggest for my tank coral, invertebrate or fish. Will this live stock go together well. What order should I add them in? I know I shouldn't add most corals for at least a year I was hoping to also have a tang if my tank is big enough. If so what tang can I have. I'm open to constructive criticism. Cheers. |

You can add coral well before a year. And there will be people who disagree but to each there own in my opinion in a 75 gallon tank you can house certain tangs. I'll probably get taken away in cuffs by the tang police for saying that though.

you can house certain tangs up to a certain point before it out grows and maybe you could trade it into your lfs, but im fairly new. i have 2 cleaner shrimp a blood shrimp and a peppermint shrimp in mine, you could easily get away with 2-3 cleaner/1 blood and 2 peppermint shrimp. also depending on what coral you want to keep, you need to decide what kind of lighting you want. |

Make sure there's a source of ammonia when cycling just to speed up the process and get the livestock you're probably dying to put up. Just make sure it's fully cycled and check parameters. As for the livestock you chose, they all will live together no problem. I'd add the clowns first as they are very hardy. Wait for your tank to be somewhat established (algae growing) before adding the urchin to give him a food source. Also, definitely don't have to wait a year as long as your tank is established and the water parameters are stable. And if you want to add an anemone, make sure you have proper lighting and water flow. They require more than the devils hand and eagle eye you want to add. Bubble tip is the easier anemone I've experienced so you could give that a try. As for the tang, I'd only recommend a yellow tang in that size. They surprising get pretty big but won't outgrow the tank for a few years so you'll be fine. Good luck!
