Steve's LEDs upgrade for Biocube 14 - question on install
Hello,
I have decided to order the LED upgrade kit from Steve's for my Oceanic Biocube 14. All of the installs I have seen have been for the newer Biocubes. Here is my question for any of you that have completed this install for Oceanic Biocube 14 - did you have to cut or mod your splash guard in any way? Also - I am ordering the 95% complete kit with the Typhon controller. Did you have to wire/install it, or was that already done? Where did you mount or place your Typhon? Thanks! <- best smiley ever! |

You should not have to cut or mod it in any form. You must remove the splash guard to gut the hood and install the new lighting components. Once the new lighting is installed replace the splash guard with the four screws.
I am gonna say I am pretty sure that you are gonna have to hook some wires from the driver to the controller. I would recommend you get the controller box they sell. It has 2 mounting holes, so its and easy 2 screws and you can attach it where u like, it also ads a nice finishing touch to the controller. |

I recently installed the Oceanic Steve's LED retrofit into my 14g Oceanic Biocube. I highly recommend purchasing the 95% complete kit....well worth the extra money, IMHO especially since all the instructions are for the Coralife version. The instructions are the one downfall to this lighting system. There are a couple on-line guides other reefers have posted for installing into the Oceanic version. The main differences is that you only have to cut away the shroud around one fan, the one on the right as there is no shroud on the left. The light fits right into the hood after cutting away that shroud if memory serves correctly. And two of the screws they send do not fit. They are obviously sending out the same screw sets for both versions which is a failing on their part as only two of the four screws work in the Oceanic version. This is a very easy fix though. I even had the correct sized screws on-hand so just switched them out. It is a good light...works very well. I would give the light a 100% rating but am forced to lower it to 95% based on no instructions for the Oceanic version and for them not sending out the correct screws. It is an extremely easy fix and I don't know why they haven't corrected their errors yet. People have been complaing about it for some time.
