Problems installing protein skimmer-please help me

Evening to you all.

I have recently set up my tank. The only thing left to fit is my skimmer. Its a tmc v2 400.
I purchased it with the intention of hanging on the back of my tank behind the background; out of sight. The problem is my tank has a fancy rim that stops the skimmers hanger fitting on.

Ive thought of a number of ways to sit it behind the tank but then a guy at my lfs told me the skimmer should be no more than 1 inch above water level?! Its about 5 inches from the top of the rim to the water level so this would suggest that hanging it on would be pointless.

The other problem is the hanger is around 19 mm wide so wont clip over the rim because the rim is 28mm.

I dont have a sump and would prefer not to put the skimmer inside the tank.

Can anyone suggest the way forward?

Ive attached pictures of my tank for you to see.

Thanks folks.
