looking for a blue fish

I've set up a 90 gal and so far I have a orange ocellaris and a B&W ocellaris. The orange one was of course named Nemo by my 4 yr old. But he was very concerned that we didn't have a blue fish to name Dory. I know I can't have an actual Dory (blue hippo tang) in a 90 so I'm looking for a nice brightly colored blue fish that is peaceful and reef safe. I was thinking blue chromis but I was told they have been coming in with uronema lately. I definitely don't want to deal with that. I thought about a blue assessor basslet or a female bellus angelfish but those are my only ideas. I promised him that our next fish would be blue but I'm struggling. Any other suggestions for a blue fish that I'm not thinking of?

Blues are tricky. I was going to say a chromi, but you've already heard of that. Chalk bass? Nice blue tints at least. GL.

Springeri Damsel are one of the less aggressive damsels and blue but some just hate damsels. (Minus clowns)

Try these

1. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...113&pcatid=113
2. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/p...455&pcatid=455
3. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/a...es.cfm?c=15+16

Not sure if you have corals or not but in some rare cases angles may pick at corals. The Blue Reef chromis would be my pick. There is another blue fish I like however kinda hard to find they are Blue Gungen Gloibies. These fish are jumpers so you need a top on your aquarium.

Hope that helps

Mark

I like the clown fairy wrasse mostly blue with some yellow, orange and reddish color on the head. Mine does not bother anything.

I have a blue devil damsel. My kids think it's the same fish as dori. Problem is, he's an a-hole. Bites your hand when you put it in the tank and is kind of a bully. Impossible to catch if you need to ever take him/her out. But...the kids love it.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I definitely have some reading to do on these suggestions. I would love a yellowtail damsel cause they do look very similar to Dory but I'm afraid they would bully everyone in the tank.

Yellow tails are fine in all the times I've had them. They only bother each other and once they establish a pecking order and territories they're pretty mild mannered compared to many popular reef fish.

Have you thought about a Venustus angelfish? They do run about 90 dollars though so the damsels are much better for your wallet.

I love my 6-line wrasse. They can be bullies, but you have the space for one. They're certainly not shy. Mine is constantly cruising around the tank.

My two yellow tail damsels were both aggressive and complete jerks to each other and everyone else in the tank. They would hide behind rocks and wait for other fish to pass so they could bite them from behind without the fish seeing them coming. Super hard to catch as well, had to take out all my coral and rock to get to them. I guess they are supposed to be better in the larger tank they are in but I still hate them and will not ever get a damsel again, even if I by some chance get a 1000 gallon aquarium someday.

Thanks everyone! There are some great ideas on here. I just don't know which one to pick but I'm glad to have more options now.

I wouldn't trust that beak of theirs in a reef tank. I'm sure it's been done before, but the odds of success just don't seem like there in the corals/invertebrates favor IMO. GL.

I ruled them (venustus) out cause they are considered difficult. Being newish to this (been out of the hobby for about 10 years) I think starting with difficult is setting myself up for failure. I also don't think I'd trust them with coral. But they sure are beautiful! I wish I wish!

Not sure I am willing to trust a damsel either, seems it is hit or miss and I know I will end up with a real jerk that I can't catch. They would be perfect if only they were always peaceful.

But I love some of the other suggestions. The goby, wrasses and dottyback are all on my list to research. I'm also still considering the blue chromis and just QTing it for a long time. I think I would also probably pretreat it with something just to be sure.

yellow tail damsel, very peaceful and very blue.
Blue hamlet, will eat small crustaceans though.
Chromis, peaceful ( although somewhat aggressive to own species )

Carribean Purple Reef Chomis (Chromis Scotti), Coral Beauty Angel (Centropyge Bispinosa), or Debora's Angel (Centropyge Deborae). LA/DD sometimes has them from time to time.

Once you decide - be patient.

I have kept both flameback and dwarf cherub angels. Both are very interesting fish with great personalities and relatively reef safe. Very rare cases of coral nipping but it does happen. They are not blue completely blue, but hippo tangs are not either lol.

the only other blue fish i can think of that hasn't been mentioned here is a Blue Hamlet.

http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/produ...id=525&cid=281

they're pretty, but can potentially eat smaller fish and crustaceans, so reef safe with caution as with most of the other blue fish.
