T5s and SPS
Will SPS do well with just T5 lighting?
Thanks, Rob |

For SPS you usually will need at least 6 T-5 bulbs except near the top of the tank. @-actinic, 4 daylight.

I suspect you'll be just fine. I run a 4 x 54w T5 HO over my 55g and have SPS growing mid level in the tank.

So 12 x 36 watts = 432 watts in a 5 - 5' long by 20" deep tank.
Yes you can keep some SPS in the upper 1/2 of that tank but I would choose some of the easier less light needing SPS like Montipora digitata and some Monti Cap., Hydnophora spp. and Pavona spp, Definitly avoid ones like Pectinia Coral, Pocillopora IE Birdsnest and cauliflower, and Seriotopora Pink Birdsnest. Just research before you buy, and don't make snapp purchases without determining lighting needs since you are limited.
