Constipated yellow tang
Hey guys, I got a ball of katomorpha yesterday and made an in tank refugium/pod breeder. Some if the kato got out into the water column and my yellow tang gobbled it up. Now he has a ball of feces with kato hanging out attached to his lower side. He's sliding along the sandbed and trying to get the cleaners to help but he's had no luck yet. Should I intervene and pull this crap off of him? Any ideas???

I would let it go for a bit first. Yellow tangs can stress to the point of death in the blink of an eye. Unless it looks like it might be turning life threatening I would not step in.

I would check or see if you can find some information on placing him in a slightly lower salinity environment. I have read before that fish can release excrement more easily in hypo-salinity environments- it may have been marine atlas.

It could also be internal parasites. Stringy poop is a sign of it.

I would leave the tang alone for at least a couple of days before worrying. I would feed Nori from a clip, this always causes my YT to poop after binging on the Nori clip.
