Ponda,

I'm not sure I know what you are asking. After reading it a few times, I think you are asking, "Is is fine to have a 6 ft 120 gallon tank on the second floor of an apartment building that was built in 1996?"

I'd check with the property manager but you will likely be told "no" for liability reasons. I lived in multiple apartments during college and most had no problems with tanks under 50 gallons. But policies will differ from place to place. They may ammend their policy and let you build a bigger tank if you are on the bottom floor.

As far as where to purchase tanks; There are endless distributors online where you can go. Personally, I'd look on Craigslist and see if you can find somebody who is getting out of the hobby. That could save you time and money.

When I lived in the 2nd floor of an apartment, I had a 90 gallon next to a wall as as well a 75 gallon about 8 feet away, never had an issue with either of them. they were both freshwater though and only one had a sump style filter. Just my experience.

I currently have a 125 on the 3rd floor of apartment just make just you put it on a load baring wall and not sitting in the middle of the room. Most apt are set up with concrete slabs between each layer to help cut down on the noise lvl from floor to floor.

Better to ask for forgiveness then for permission just do it ha.

Funny but dangerous. I've helped tear down a 180 bow front that had been set up "on the down low" in an appartment with a 60gal limit. The apartment fined him 300 dollars and made him remove the tank or be evicted. This worked in my favor because I got to "babysit" the tank for the next six months while he waited out his contract.

Those contracts are no joke and there could be consequences. Plus, tearing down a tank sucks as is. No need to add that stress to it.
