Questions on the Red Sea Max 250
Hi,
My name's Tim and I'm a total newbie. I've been a koi enthusiast for a few years and have a 4000 gal pond in my backyard (see pic). Autumn is a depressing time of year as the pond fish settle in for the winter and my lilies and plants begin dying off or going to sleep for the winter. Anyway, it occurred to me that I should bring adapt my for hobby indoors and year round. Some research led me to the conclusion that a reef tank is what I'd like to do. All the components are new to me and daunting. Further research led me to the Red Sea Max 250, and you fine people. For a newbie, it seems the way to go. All required components included, one wall plug, pre-plumbed for accessories (sounds like a chiller will be the first), no extra visible tanks or other items outside the unit makes it clean looking and aesthetically pleasing. I do have a couple questions for anyone with an RSM250, or anyone with any knowledge. - Weight. Our house was built in 2011, so is pretty new and true. I have a spot for it selected downstairs if it's unwise to put it in my office on the 2nd floor, but work at home and would prefer to have it in my office if at all possible. Is it unwise to put this on the 2nd floor? - Regrets. Anybody with an RSM250 have regrets? I briefly thought about putting components together to make my own reef tank but am a little intimidated and like the 'clean' look of the RSM250 because it's all made to go together. - Size. I've already had my koi pond dug up and enlarged once because I wanted it bigger. It seems like with Reef tanks after 250litre all components get exponentially more expensive so a 125Gal tank actually ends up costing 300% more than a 67gal tank. This is why I've narrowed in on the RSM250, it's may be about as large as a newbie should go. Does anyone have any advise or comments on size? - Add ons. Based on what I've read, it seems a chiller (if needed) may end up being my first add on. I like that I've seen several that fit cleanly under the unit retaining that neat look. Has anyone had any warrantee issues or hassles due to add-ons? - Anybody have any service or warrantee good or bad experiences? Thanks for any information that anyone can provide !
