Conceptual Plumbing Design of Large Tank

Everyone,

Here's a conceptual layout and design of my plumbing for a new system I'm building. Any feedback and critiques you have for potential alternatives and improvements would be appreciated.

There are three sections in the document but I didn't connect them on paper to avoid turning it into a mess. I drew the Sump Design section last and didn't bother putting in all the valves and unions as I'll draw them in before I place an order for parts.

Plumbing for the water changing station will be schedule 40, the rest will be schedule 80.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Looks great! The only thing I'd consider changing, assuming I understand your schematic, is the valve located between the rock sump and the tertiary sump that feeds reactors and the frag tank. It looks like there is no other way for the water to get from the secondary sump, and if the valve is accidentally turned or plugged you may have a spill! Also, have you debated putting the frag tank in line with the return water? That would alleviate the need for another pump. You could put a bypass if you didn't water to feed into the frag tank.

Looks great though!

Those are some great ideas, thank you. I'll definitely incorporate them.

I am planning and building almost the exact same size tank right now and one thing I am going to try and incorporate is this:

I have plumbed in a feeding tube for the aquarium..

The owner wanted to have ease of feeding frozen food so I added this to the return line.

A lot of people have asked about feeding tubes so here is one example.

The vertical pipe in the middle is clear PVC with a Banjo fitting for adding the frozen food while the valves are closed on both ends of the feeding tube. The video below shows how easy it is to use the tube when feeding.

Ditch the check valve. They don't work for long and I have seen them split in half causing a flood.

Here is a pic of my water system. It looks a lot like what you are planning.

Looks great. Did you use a uniseal for the bulkhead in the middle of the tank?

I like the idea of not having to get your hands wet every time you feed or dose.
