Snail lethargy/die off reason?
Mixed reef tank up and running 2.5+ years.
Nitrite: 0 Nitrate: 0 pH: 8.0 Ammonia: 0 Salinity: ? (hydrometer took a dive) I do ~20% water changes biweekly (store brewed saltwater, my ro system is down) Conch is doing great, nassarius snails doing great, Mexican Baja and margarita snails don't fare so well. Looking for ideas as to why. Go.

Probably worth noting.... I have not really had a "die off" of my snails but a couple of the specimens are staying in one spot on the glass going on 2+ days now. One of the stationary snails has been assassinated, his shell commandeered by my lone hermit crab whom is about to be banished to the sump in his new shell.

Temperature? Those are cooler water snails and we typically keep our tanks at warmer temps.

Sounds like it's time to buy a refractometer. You need to know what your salinity is!

what is your phosphate level? It might be coincidence, but all my snails started to become lathargic and then died. Found out my phosphates spiked.

Furthermore, I may have cried wolf.... upon further observation it is in fact only two snails (one of which got too close to my hermit crab and was taken out) that were acting lethargic and I'm guessing were two that were in a lot that was recently added to the tank. Perhaps some specimens are simply not cut out for tank life?
