Terrible gurgiling sound from my protein skimmer

Brand new...running about 30 minuets and it sounds like the suction at the dentist. Its super loud.

When I place my finger over the holes on the little cup thingy that is attached to a hose, the the suction sound goes away. So do the bubbles.

My sump has the required water level, the valve is wide open since its in the break in mode.

If foam bubbles are being produced, and see some "crap" in the collection cup, everything is working fine. Not all skimmers are equal.

If that bothers you, just the sound alone, you don't entirely need a skimmer at all. Skimmers are highly recommended but if you keep up with your water changes they are not 100% nessecary.

The stand will closed doors will draw out the sound.

Because its benifical and this hobby ask for patience which we all must have.

The way your making it sound is nothing compared to my skimmers.. some can be really loud while others are not.

My back-pak skimmer is pretty quiet minus the splashing sound but my sea clone gets annoying here and there.

I would try and close the valve and see if that helps, Make sure you did not forget install a part somewhere, in my opinion it shouldn't be that loud, but I also don't have a skimmer that big.

your right, if my skimmer sounded like a truck then, I would run it over with a truck. contact the manufacturer and see what they say.

You also should not have bubbles in your display.

My skimmers not terribly loud but I did put an airstone in front of the Venturi to muffle the suction.

your pump is not put together correctly, I would take it out and make sure the impeller is in its bushings and also make sure your outlet of the pump is seated good and tight into the body. look for obstructions.
