Putting a glass bottle in a reef tank
I recently visited a frag seller/reefer on CL and I noticed he has a bottle (empty) of Skull Vodka in his reef tank. Smack dead center and it had an encrusting coral growing all over it. I thought it was the coolest thing. I'm thinking down the road when I kill a bottle of this stuff, I could add it to my reef tank or is that no no? Would it harm anything if it is cleaned properly? Should I fill the bottle up with sand?

Paulb has had empty bottles in his tank for years. Won't harm anything. If you are trying to recreate a reef then it will fit right in. There is trash everywhere.

It's a matter of taste. I like to keep the tank as natural looking as possible. It gives me a sense of peace. The glass won't hurt anything. Maybe the paint on the bottle might?? Perhaps it won't either but I personally prefer the natural over the 'cool' look of the tank.

In my old tank I had a empty mini bottle of grey goose. It was cool for a while, but I removed it because I didn't want the water to get stagnant inside of it.

I've enjoyed drinking the skull vodka and then dremeling the neck off for placement in various tanks.
Don't currently have one but they are fun.

How did that beer can work out? Glass I could see but I would be scared to put metal in there. I like the idea of a trash tank. 6 pack rings maybe. |

I've been using little antique glass bottles to mount frags for a couple of yrs now. I'll post up a couple of pics later if I don't fall asleep first.

I know that bottle. Me and him have gone a few rounds. Not surprised to see him sleeping with the fishes...

In my fw tank I have a bottle that I collected while snorkeling and looking for fish habitat and in my old pico I had a bottle that an elephant gave me after he dug it up one afternoon.

Trying for a better resize. Click on the pics and they blow up a bit. Note that in the first pic there are two bottles, one mostly covered in montipora and xenia.

To be specific, this whole bottle was covered. You could see the indentations of the skull and everything. It looked like a real skull with encrusting plate coral all over it. I didnt get a shot of it, I should have though. Thanks for the input guys, I am actually waiting for a friend to finish a bottle of it.
