marco live rock

25lbs of live rock coming in tomorrow to add to my base rock and start my cycle. When it comes in do I need rinse it or let the decomposing parts stay on? Im not sure of the steps because I hear it is delivered in wet news paper. Help

You could just throw it in as is, if you'd like. My preference is to get a 5 gallon bucket of saltwater made up and slosh each rock in it violently to get a lot of the debris and detritus off the rock.

How much deeper would the ocean be if it didn't have sponges?

+1^ but if you can stand your sandbed being pretty dirty for a few months until you get cleaners the detritus will help ur cycle

Just make sure your tank is ready for some live rock. It cant sit around. It has to go right into a tank

With major die-off, the rock may pollute your water beyond what you want in a cyclw period. I would recommend curing the rock first. However, it's important to know where the rock is coming from...
If from a neighbor, there won't be much die-off. If from Indonesia, then a curing process is in order.

its from Marcos in Miami and was shipped out Tuesday. It is advertised as already cured. So should I just rinse or rinse and scrub to get the dead stuff off?

does it have to be in touching or have contact with my base rock to spread the algae and live stuff or can it be by separate in the back of the tank? I ask this because the base rock is Key Largo and the Marco live rock doesn't match. So I didn't want to stack it on the base rock.

I would at least rinse it in a bucket of SW.

It can be separated from base rock; whatever's on the LR will spread.

thanks guys. I just finished adding it to the tank and I have t say the aquascape looks awesome. I did find and remove a mantis shrimp from one piece. 3 days out of water is impressive. I gave him to my son who will give him to his snow flake eel.
