Winter is coming... let's talk heaters

Hi all,

After a few years on hiatus, I recently started up another reef system. It dawned on me today I don't have a heater in case it gets particularly chilly. So I was hoping ya'll could share your recommendations.

The tank size is 14 gallons, and I'm looking for a heater which is smart enough to turn itself off at a specified temperature without the use of an additional temp controller. My preliminary searching landed me on the "Azoo Titanium Heater", but I have no experience with the brand or reliability of the temperature readings.

What would you do?

Thanks

The cobalt aquatics neo-therm is nice.

I thought long and hard about this for my 65 gal reef and came back to Ebo (now Ehiem) Jager. I still have one in my FW South American tank that has been working perfectly for over 25 years. I just hope the new Jagers are almost as reliable.

The short answer to that is no but they are better than most. I have good luck with Via Aqua but the separate temp control is a little trying on a small tank.

I'd go with jaeger then cobalt. Jaegers have been very reliable for me.

I put the smallest neotherm in the biocube 14. Nice little heater that fits in tight places. Liked them so much that I slowly switched any tank that had a glass heater over to the plastic ones. Still use Ranco/Titanium elements on the big tank and have never regretted that choice.
I just looked at a readout of the temp graph from a tank running a neotherm set at 78'. It reads 77.7 degrees and is dead flat for the past two weeks so I can't complain. Good heaters, a little pricey but they work.

I ordered one of the 75 watt neotherms tonight, they seem like a great choice

My 250w Eheim Jager heater arrived today. A very solid quality feel. I hope your Neotherm is a quality product as well.

The only reason not to get a Neotherm is that they're a lot more than a Jager. They are more consistent and reliable though and I use both.

I bought a finnex titanium with the included controller, and right out of the box the buttons do not work. Very disappointed, but I'll keep it because it is preset and 78F and that works for me.
