AI Hydra - Tank Pictures

My 180g should be ready soon and I wanted to see some pictures of tanks with AI Hydras over them. So post away!

Also, if there is anyone on the North side of Houston that would allow me to come see your tank with these lights would be awesome!

Great color! The greens, reds, pinks & purples really pop.

What's your opinions since you have the Sol, Vega, & Hydra?

+1 and how many AIs do you have over your tank. That's the most fully lit LED tank I think I have seen.

I have a vega over a 60 cube. I would have bought a hydra if they were out at that time.

Hi peeps.

Thanks for the comments.

The tank is metric but in inches is around 6 foot long x 33.5 " wide x 26" of actual water depth. Due to the width and the fact that I had Vega's and a SOL from my previous tank I have 8 units over it.

My preference for colour would be the Vega, the SOL is a little cool but a great workhorse LED. The Hydra give a very nice rounded light output with a slight purple tone that makes the lights look a little like running Reeflux 12k halides.

The UV in the Hydra really helps get the colours popping in my opinion.

Cheers

Reef bloke, your tank is amazing! Have you measured the PAR on your corals ever? Would be nice to know what those LED's are throwing on the SPS.

OP apologies for going off topic.

No problem, great looking tank. I was hoping to get pics of Hydra tanks to see the "purple" tint many refer to. I'm not a huge fan of purple tanks & actually prefer more white light.... but I really like the hydra lights.

I don't understand the 'purple' thing. With each color controlled separately - could 7sers not achieve any color desired?

Hi Sahin

Many thanks

PAR levels are quite high, i have an Apogee electric sensor attached to a multi meter and with the lights full blast im getting.

2"under water 1400 micromoles (this is almost directly under the lights so not an accurate representation).

10" 500-700mm depending on position

halfway down tank between 350-450mm

2 " off sand 100-200mm

On sand 50-150mm

I don't generally run at those power levels though as the corals start to lighten and a prefer the deeper coloured flesh.

regards

This is true but i think people evaluate unit colour before adjustment of any kind to give fair feedback. After adjustment most Kelvin values are attainable as you state.

I know you can adjust all channels, but I have heard it still has a bot of a purple color.

I wouldn't say a lot, it's a different spectra from standard white/blue only led set ups and violet LEDs do feature so there will be a violet spike in there.

To me Hydras look like 12k reeflux halides , I used to run the reeflux and liked the purple in those.
