I prefer black for reef tanks (or possibly a very dark blue).

Blue backgrounds are the overwhelming winner for me. I've had both in the past, black always looked good to me in all the awesome builds I see on Reef Central but never looked good in mine for some reason 8).

Heres the blue in my new mr aqua 17 I started a few days ago. And yes the light is going to upgrade along with the addition of more rock.

It does look good.I have had fish only tanks that were acrylic with blue background but never a reef.I think right now if I went with blue it would be a darker blue.Tough choice

Black for me. I don't dislike the blue. I just think the black works better.

I'm not really sure if this really applies to saltwater tanks, but black on black is off the hook... JMO.

(black substrate, black background, black rim, black trim)

it doesn't matter, it will be purple if you have the tank long enough....

I had blue on my last tank. I have black on my current tank. I will never have black again. Blue is soooooo much nicer.

Not if you keep the back clean. My tank has been setup over a year now.

Every time I go to the LFS I forget to get a background for my tank. It's been over a year now lol

Will probably go with dark blue or black.

Wait until it's been 5 or 10 years then you'll see

Won't matter. I have been keeping reef tanks for 20+ years and I have always kept all glass free of algae and coraline. I hate both so they are removed. I typically clean the back glass every 3-4 weeks. The other 3 sides are cleaned every 3 days.

Sorry not to get off topic here but mayjong how long did it take for your back to look like that. Very beautiful.

Good job on keeping the back clean and also nice looking tank.My upgrade from my 60 cube is going to be a DSA 105.Someone pointed out to me on another site by having a black overflow and blue background does not look good IHO.

Thanks. Yeah I can see where that would look very strange. I have the Monti growing on mine now but might be removing soon. Still not sure I like the it.
