maxspect razor owners
hey guys im trying to see what settings your running your razor at I have the 27 inch over my 90 and I cant seem to find the sweet spot some of my sps are not looking as good as they did under my old halides. some seem to brown out and others look like they are at a loss of color this is not from any parasites or water chemistry. I wonder if im not running them high enough or maybe to high. my whites are at 60 and blues are at 100 they run for 9 hours a day that includes the ramp up and down the light is about a foot off the water.

One razor over a 90g?
I find my razor 160w lacking on my 55g. 40x20x18" How far from the light is the corals. Where in the tank are they placed? what kind of SPS?

yea I bought the light when it first came out when they said it would work on a 4 foot tank. I have some acros and a few millis they are all at the top of my tank they are about 18 inches from the light. I always thought they needed time to adjust from the halides to leds. I have never ran the light all the way maxed out all my lps are doing fine I just feel like the colors aren't right for my sps. I raised the light because after I purchased it I noticed the corners were kinda dark but now that's not an issue im just wondering if I need to ramp up higher but I don't want to burn my corals.

I have yet to see a spectacular SPS tank lit by razor's. I share some corals with my brother who has a T5 lit tank. His corals are much more vibrant. It can ofcourse depend on other parameters.
This shot is from yesterday in my newly scaped tank that is still recovering from a crash. I have never been able to get more colors out of my corals i think. It is lit by 27" 10.000 kelvin 100%blue 65% white: My personal opinion regarding razor is that it is very good for LPS, it grows SPS ok but to get those "wow" colors and growth for acropora one needs to look for something else. Yiu get what you pay for i guess. I hope i am wrong and someone can show me a picture that proves otherwise. PS i have maxima clams on the bottom for almost a year so it seems to produce par enough thats for sure. More pictures if you are interested @ my blog http://acropora.se Its been lit with razors since december 2012.

yea I am starting to feel that way about this light too. that's a sweet tank by the way sorry to hear that you had a crash. im wondering if I should switch back now haha I hate seeing my sps like this they were full of color before the switch I have a blue milli I use to frag to take to the store and the owner loved its color and took it home for his tank now im not so sure. they all are healthy with good polyp extension the colors just aren't there. if I don't get any other input maybe I will sell the light and find something else. the only thing I could think is I had a temp spike a few months ago but I would think if that was the cause it would have healed up by now. I am still fighting some hair algae from it my tank hit 92 I thought I lost everything

i uses a single 27" 160w 16k on my 48x24x14" tank. hung 17" above water level. tank is sps dominated. SPS color used to be bad since i was new in SPS and i kept rescaping the tank. recently months parameters stabilized and color are much better now!
i dare not say razor definitely get you the best color of SPS but im say its more than capable of producing good colors. what other LED fixtures can do, it can too. it would be much better if i can add 2 tubes of t5 to it! |

wow that looks really good. im def not knocking the light I love mine I am just trying to fine tune it I guess it could have been caused from the temp spike I had since it was about the halfway point from when I bought the light I know some corals take a while to adjust to the light. I use to have two 250 watt halides over my tank with two t5s to supplement but I just miss the colors.

Some of my SPS pictures, color is definitely not at their best yet as some are still recovering. Picture most of them being white/Brown last time and get an idea how much their color improved :
This piece bought totally brown, had no idea what was it. Was at dirt cheap price so i figured no harm trying. turns out to be a beautiful tri-color valida. |

Picture of tank together with light : Sorry to blast your thread with so many pictures. the only problem i get with a single 27" fixture is that both corners of my rock works (left and right) are not able to hold any acroporas, i keep some birdnest there but color and growth is not good at all. im hoping to add 2x 54W T5 to cover both corners so i can keep some acros there as well. |

forgot about settings level, they are at A:75%, B:100% when peak level reaches. this level runs 8 hours. i run the light total 12 hours. meaning 2 hours ramp up, then peak level for 8 hours and then 2 hours ramp down. Above pictures taken when A and B is 100%.

Beautiful tank evolutionZ. I'm jealous. Mine looks like **** regardless of the fact that I try to do everything right and by the book.
