Sand sifting sea star

I've been researching about it because I've been thinking of getting one but I've read that they need to be actively fed or they will burrow in sand in search of food and eventually die, does any1 own 1 to give any advice on preparing for 1 or how to maintain a healthy 1

Don't get one. It will just end up eating all of the beneficial benthic organisms that you DO want in your sand and then die. A few nassarius snails will do a much better job of moving around the sand bed and eating leftover food.

unless of corse you keep sand in your tank as a display rather than means of biological filtration

I hesitate to get one for anything less than a 500 gallon tank. Max size is one foot.

get a conch shell or goby.

Both do great jobs of sifting sand.
