Fluval Edge having difficulty cycling?
I want to begin by saying I am not too much of a beginner, I have had a 20 gallon reef aquarium for over a year now, but took it down to create a new and hopefully better tank.
I have a 6g fluval edge sitting here on my desk with a 10g sump, filled with live rock, live sand, and used water from the previous tank. However, It has been a little more than 3 weeks, and ammonia levels haven't dropped past 1ppm. All my nass snails had died inside the tank, yet my hermit is still alive inside of the sump. I don't understand why this tank is taking so long to get past the ammonia part of the cycle, especially with the live rock that I put in there. I highly doubt the GE silicone and pexi glass I used in the sump is creating an ammonia problem, and the live rock didn't need curing as it was already cured in another tank there wouldn't be much to any die off? |

If all dead creatures were removed, then either it should eventually come down or you have effectively stalled your cycle. If everything was moved out when they died, then wait a week. If your parameters are stuck in a week, then do a 50% water change. That should take care of the issue.

I agree. The most effective is water changes. Make sure there are no remaining decaying matter. Your ammonia should drop to zero.

which ge silicone did you use?
I had ge Silicone 1 kill off my healthy African cichlids when I introduced the first 3 from my 55 g tank into a 125g with a 55 sump within.. id say about 1-2 days.. it cured for almost a month before adding water. it was silicone 1 kitchen and bath, not silicone 1 window door.. either silicone 2 will give you issues as well just to be clear. |
