Do fish molt?
Hello,
I have a 90 Gal Fowlr that finished cycle about 8 mos ago. About 3 weeks ago it looked like my blue eyed tang (added in mid june) was losing some of his color, now sometimes it looks like he has pale whitish film on skin. The film seems to come and go. He always eats and acts ok. Can any of this be from growing? |

no that isnt a normal pattern there is no molt. could be irritations or infections that may subside with maturity but those fish arent known for mucous coat shedding etc like what you describe. should pretty much just look the same except for minor color changes from time to time. any sloughing Id be concerned about

Exactly. But until you get used to that, it is alarming until you realize you are seeing a molt rather than a dead shrimp.

What your seeing is the fish change color because of stress, excitement, sleeping, ect...
Most fish do this for short periods of time and is completely normal...
