BRS Dual reactor question

So i watched a video recently where he put the GFO in the first cannister without any tube or sponges. Is this normal practice? HOw do you use yours to get the most churn out of the GFO without it getting clogged up?

I use it just like they do in the video with no issue - When I initially turn it on I have the valve closed to about 3/4. After a few days the unit begins to clog up a tad so I open it up more to allow more flow through. works like a charm for me.

I have been doing some reading and a lot of people are saying mix your carbon and GFO.. make sure to mix it very good and then pack it tight. With it setup like that it does not have to tumble. Gonna give it a whirl.

I do not like to mix it personally - GFO lasts me quite a bit longer than carbon and GFO isn't cheap

I agree that it is expensive, but when i use my GFO it tumbles for a few days and then just sits there. I am thinking maybe i will use the tube that goes into the canister with no foams and see how it goes.

I am probably the only idiot to do this but I was having trouble with mine clogging after a few days. Realized the other night that I had the intake and return lines backwards. Works like a charm now.

I mix it and have been doing so for the last year and half, will never run it any other way again.
