House warming party!
New tank set up!!!! Finally I'm given the go ahead for my new tank! Question is, 8'2'2 in a L shape ie 4ft on one arm 4ft on other unseperated OR 7,2.5.2 ... Basic tank layout but deeper, I love the L idea but worried that my lion won't have room to spread his wings!

You can keep a volitans easily in a 2' wide setup, so either would be fine, assuming proper 'scaping. The L-shape would be an interesting setup.
We've kept a full grown volitans in a 48" x 24" x 20" 100 gal, and it had plenty of room to turn around and swim. It's the 18" wide tanks that present the space problem for large-bodied lionfishes.

Pretty fish, but are your sure it's a "vollie"? I'm seeing a sparse body banding pattern and no spots on its median fins. Does it have the typical volitans markings beneath its chin, or is it plain white?
To be honest, I'd start target-feeding the lionfish. IME, when other fishes dive in to rob them, they often get popped either accidentally, or when the lionfish has "had enuff" abuse. Also, I'd feed it smaller food items, as they digest more easily, which is important for fishes with slow metabolisms. You'll also want to keep an eye on the toby, as it may become a problem nipper, or the lion may decide to try and swallow it someday. HTH

Yeah he's a volli he has the markings, he is still a juve so he is getting darker by the week I just don't have camera skills, I'll try an get a new vid that's a bit clearer! He never normally has a problem getting first serving which is why I thought it funny he decided to stalk food in this vid, he normally jumps on it!
Do you mean the puffer? |

Yes, I meant the puffer. Canthagaster sp. are often referred to as tobies.
