What's growing on my rock?

Hey guys, I just noticed this growth one of my small pieces of rock. It loos spongy and has two holes side by side. Any idea what it is?

That's exactly it... A sponge. I have a few different color ones growing on some of my rock.

What caused it grow and is it a good or bad thing.

looks like a sponge....typically means you are doing something right.
also may be a tunicate....also means you are doing something right.

That's just it, I don't know what I'm doing ��. I set up my 65g with the guidance and reaserch from this forum and all I did was set it and forget it. My tank has been maturing for the last year and a half with nine fish, a cleanup crew and a serpent sea star. I haven't done a water change in over six months and my nitrates are south of 1 ppm. Heck, I turned off my skimmer for two weeks to see if my nitrates would rise and nothing.
