Set up tank or wait?
If you guys knew you were going to move your tank in 4 months, would you hold off on setting it up? My tank has been torn down for a while, but we are finishing our basement and I will re-setup the tank once it is completed. I have the option to wait until completed or set it up in the utility room for now, which won't be finished, and will be 8 ft from the final placement. I am trying to decide if I should wait on the setup or get a head start and the cycle and everything else!

I'd wait on setting up the tank, but you could cure the live rock in tubs in the utility room or hook up an ro/di system for making water. That way it would be ready by the time you get to set up the tank. You could also start up a qt tank in the utility room as well and cycle that. Then you will be a little ahead of the game as well.

How big is the tank? Moving a tank a few feet isn't a big deal it only takes a couple hours. If you were moving to a new house I would wait. Otherwise you can start the cycle and a few fish.

Not sure if your tank placement will allow it but now would be a great time to plan and install lines/hoses for bucketless make-up water additions as well as bucketless water changes. I have all of mine running from the garage, under the house and up into the wall beside my tank. My back would not allow me to do this hobby without this set up.

Sorry forgot to mention that it's a 120 gallon tank. I am just nervous about trying to get it setup to the exact same way once I take it down and move it. I am very picky about how I like to get my rockscape and normally do this dry, but if I set the tank up, everything will be wet and it will be much harder to get it setup the same once I re-set it up.

I would not set it up..going to be so much harder down the road. This gives you time to plan it out and 4 months honestly is not that long to wait.

If you're picky then don't set it up, 4 months will be there in no time. This way you have more time to plan it out so that the tank will end up looking better. Just my .02 cents

I agree with Kv2wr1. I would get the rock cycled in containers with powerheads and heaters and then ghost feed - by the time you set it up, you shouldn't end up with much of a cycle and you hopefully go through the ugly stages in the barrels
