Marineland 60 gallon cube

Okay so I have this Marineland 60 gallon cube tank, the overflow system to me is terrible. I have a Mag 5 on it, and have to keep it dialed down so low or I get the toilet flushing sound. There is this little straw looking thing coming out of the top of the return line. Is there anything I can do to make this thing quieter so I can actually get some water movement in the tank and better filtration. Also can you recommend a good skimmer for this size tank. I have a Diablo 160XS on my 90 but I think that would be overkill for this. Nothing from Aqua C please

I have the same tank. Haven't filled it yet so I'm tagging along. I'm planning on getting a bubble magus curve 5.

I'm modding a 16g Berlin sump and connecting it to a 10g tank.

I turned both of my predrilled holes into drains and drilled another hole for the return. This will allow me to run one as a full siphon and use the other as an emergency drain.

For skimmer I went with a used NWB-110 I got for cheap. I'm using a 20H as my sump as well. Hope to leak test everything this weekend.

There are a few other posts on the subject that might give you some insights on to what others have done. Personally, I drilled a second hole and reamed the first one out a bit where the drain pipe bends with the breather tubes. I used larger diameter tubing for the breathers and have the 2 breathers at different heights (one is flush, the other is down about 8 inches). I run a Sicce 3 at about 50% on a 65 gal now and it's fairly quiet. Not dead silent though.

Well I have no idea what happened but it is up full blast now and no noise. And I just cleaned the pump.

I have the same tank, and run the overflow as a Herbie. The lower one is full siphon, and the upper hole is the emergency drain. For a return, I go over the top and use a 3/4" sea swirl. Totally silent, and lots of flow. My skimmer is a diablo 160, and it works great. I have a good bio load and feed a ton though.
