Asm skimmer question
I just setup a 60 cube and I'm using the same skimmer I was using in a previous tank. It's in about the same depth of water. It's been running on the lowest setting for bout a week. I figured I should let it break in. All it was "skimming" was the dust from the sand I put in but now it is bubbling over into the cup and after about 2 inches of water gathers in the cup it starts skimming normal again and if I dump the cup and put it back on it bubbles over and fills the 2 inches in the cup again immediately then goes back to normal. It's tuned all the way down. I can't figure out what's going on. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

When you remove the cup to empty it, do you leave the pump running? With my ASM4, every time I turn the pump back on I do get an initial surge of water into the collection cup, so I just leave the pump running - skimmer will 'overflow' while the top is off, but all water into the sump so no biggie. Try that.

Yes, I remove the cup to empty it and the bubble level is low, below the neck and when I put it back on the immediately surge into the cup and once an inch or two of water is in the cup they settle back down to a lower point where they should be. I work on tanks all day at work and I've had this skimmer for awhile but I've never seen one do this before. It's like the surge comes out of nowhere.
