How much Phoslock in Phosban 150 reactor?

I was looking for advice on the amount of Phoslock to place in my phosban 150 reactor.

The direction for Phoslock says to use 1 tablespoon for every 25 gallons when placing the media in a filter pouch provided and then place in sump. Would this 1 tablespoon per 25 gallons also work for the amount required placing media in the reactor? I see many reactor 1/2 to completely filled with media and didn't want to go to that extreme for upsetting the tank in a bad way.

Advice and recommendations excepted. Thanks in advance!

Welcome to Reef Central! How big is your tank and are you keeping a reef? And is Phoslock GFO or an aluminum based product?

It is wise to start with a smaller amount and work up. I run standard GFO in a 65g '& fill it up to about 1 inch above the bottom of the label on the tube. I think this is about eight or 9 tablespoons but can't remember. This is a little more than is usually recommended on the label, but works for me. I started at about half of that amount. There is no harm in starting with even less in the beginning if you are worried about it as there are no hard & fast rules. Don't be alarmed if you find that your coral polyps retract a little bit when starting, that's normal. They will adapt. Bulk Reef Supply has a calculator on their website, that might be helpful too.

90 gallon with around 15 in sump. Total just over 100. The brand is PURA Phoslock and is GFO. I placed 3 TBS into the reactor this afternoon. I have noticed my styophora polyps retract on part of it. Everything else pocillopora and pavona look fine so far. I have been running reactor for about 3 hours now.

Note: Weird since I started typing this, the Stylophora looks great now, all polyps extended.

Thanks for the calculator reference!!
